5/21 Sponsor of The Seattle Cold Readers

Greetings from Seattle Cold Readers!

I'll be taking the Friday evening class with Karen Kohlhaas. She is the featured sponsor for this month's show. Welcome to Seattle Karen!

She tells me that there is still some space open in the Seattle workshops - feel free to contact her to talk further at MonologuesKarenK@aol.com

Actors:· Do you want to enter the audition room with confidence and ease every time?· Do you want to audition like a bold adventurer instead of a worried perfectionist?· Do you want to know you have chosen the best possible monologue for each audition you go on?· Do you want a solid monologue audition technique that leaves you free to act and to play?

NYC Director/Teacher/Author Karen Kohlhaas teaches at Theatre Puget Sound:· Friday evening May 8th (Monologue & Audition Technique intro)· Saturday May 9th (All-Day Monologue Workshop)· Sunday May 10th (All-Day "Fearless Cold Reading & Audition Technique")"The audition process is an abomination...but turn it on its head, and we have, as Ms. Kohlhaas suggests, an opportunity to investigate and improve one's understanding of script analysis, staging, and self-promotion. What a good idea." -David Mamet, Playwright, Director, Producer/Creator "The Unit," from his introduction to Karen Kohlhaas' bookThe Monologue Audition: A Practical Guide for Actors

Karen Kohlhaas, author of three books on Monologues and Auditioning, is an Off-Broadway director, a co-founder of New York's award-winning Atlantic Theater Company, and a senior teacher at the Atlantic Acting School's conservatory for New York University undergraduates and professional actors. She will be in Seattle May 8-10 teaching her Monologue Workshop and "Fearless Cold Reading & Audition Technique."

Listen to an interview with Karen atwww.EverythingActingPodcast.com.You may already know Karen from her website www.monologueaudition.com which features The Overdone Monologue Surveys(Female and Male), or from her books or DVD (see trailers)."I learned more in your class than I have learned in any class I have taken since I graduated. I have a confidence that I carry now with me into auditions that I have never had." -Caroline Slaughter, Los Angeles/New
York actor and former studentThere are three ways to participate:

INTRODUCTORY EVENING:Friday evening May 8th, 6-9pm · Monologue clinic: Feedback on material selection, acting choices and physical choices.· Intro to "Fearless Cold Reading": Know the most important place to focus in cold reads (and ALL auditions with sides) and how it can change your auditions from self-conscious to truly Fearless!· "Entering the Audition Room 101": This intro gives you the physical framework to enter the audition room with confidence and ease as a BASELINE-regardless of nerves or the stakes of the audition. You will see & experience distinct changes in the quality of actors' entrances with 3 simple adjustments.· Material choice for auditions: Q&A based on Karen's new book "How to Choose a Monologue for Any Audition." Also: What is a "Hello, This is Me Monologue," and when is it the best choice for an audition? This evening can be taken on its own ($25).

MONOLOGUE WORKSHOP INTENSIVE DAY:Saturday, May 9th, 9am-6pmLearn to love to audition with monologues! This workshop shows you the steps to Karen's unique system that she has taught to thousands of college and auditioning actors in the US and internationally: Using a new monologue or one you have already auditioned with, learn to DIRECT, ACT, and AUDITION with Monologues, and take the technique with you.10 actors only. Some preparation is required. (FEE: $175, includes Friday intro evening). "I have to say my fear of monologues is officially gone and I welcome the challenges they offer in an audition. I had to learn a monologue from the play the night before the audition. I tackled it, had 2 callbacks and YAY! I am stoked-I am playing Masha in Chekhov's THREE SISTERS." -Katie Rayle, New York actor and former student

FEARLESS COLD READING & AUDITION TECHNIQUE INTENSIVE DAY:Sunday May 10th, 9am-6pm Audition as an adventurer, not a perfectionist! Get out of your own way and have fun in the audition room. FEARLESS COLD READING: How to immediately transport your auditors into the story and make them forget you are holding the script! Karen's energetic 10-point cold reading technique includes specific tools that are valuable for ALL auditions. Includes how to excel at cold reading with great AND terrible readers. FEARLESS AUDITION TECHNIQUE: Master the art of entering, interacting in, and exiting the audition room with graciousness, confidence and ease, every time. 12 actors only. "Befores" and "Afters" are videotaped for verifiable results! (FEE: $150 includes Friday intro evening). "Well, look at what taking your Fearless Cold Reading class has done for me: I've been offered the gigand I'm POSITIVE it's because of the ease and confidence I got from your workshop. So thank you!" -Keong Sim, NYC actor and former studentEntire weekend tuition: $300 (includes Friday night intro)What actors are saying about Fearless Cold Reading & Audition Techique:"I am currently rehearsing a show, and one of the producers pulled me aside to tell me my audition/cold read was one of the best she had seen in the auditions, and that obviously whatever audition classes I had taken paid off. Of course this came only weeks after completing your cold reading class. So, thank you again, I am definitely more confident walking into auditions." -Jason Barker, NYC actor and former student"Your techniques have indeed transformed the experience of auditioning for me. I've since been cast in two plays and an independent film. Thank you!" -Rachel Crouthamel, NYC actor and former student"I have gotten a callback for almost every audition I've been to since taking your course! I got into a show right away." -Marek Sapieyevski, NYC actor and former studentWhat actors are saying about the Monologue Workshop:Another audition... got another callback. And that's the result of only two classes! Love your system... love it. Every monologue I've previously discarded now looks to have serious potential. Awesome. -Jennifer Lucas, Los Angeles actor and former studentYour class was so interesting and incredibly helpful to me. I can't believe I have four monologues that I actually like to do. And I am looking FORWARD to beginning to go out and audition.....what???!!-Sacha Yanow, NYC actor and former studentI was at an audition today, and after I was finished the director commented on how interesting my choice was, and went on to say that he just saw hundreds of the same thing over and over again, and what a relief to see something fresh. -Liz Eggers, L.A./NYC actor and former student
